Birding Fun

With spring comes birds, birds and more birds. We are lucky enough to have several feeders in our yard that attract a nice array of birds. As well, we have at least one little nest in Holly's exploration garden that we are watching carefully now - so exciting. In our house, we love birds!

Today we read The Boy Who Drew Birds: A Story of John James Audubon by Jacqueline Davies... it is a great book! We talked about his story and looked more information on John James Audubon, including his art work. As well, Holly learned about how she takes science classes at an Audubon Center and one of our beloved bird books is published by the National Audubon Society. It was a great lesson.

To go along with his story we also looked through several other bird books we own and then decided to take a small walk and see how many bird nests, birds and signs of birds we could find at a local park. First we enjoyed a picnic and then walked around a local pond and along a stream. We found so many bird nests of all kinds, some with bird activity. We found baby ducks which stole the show today. And, we found some broken eggs... most likely stolen eggs, but who knows. It was a fantastic little adventure out that Holly added to her nature journal. Tomorrow we will be doing an art project or two to go along with our little bird study.
