Fall Branches

Holly & I enjoyed a simple craft that really embraced the seasons color with supplies you probably have on hand to create beautiful fall branches.

Take coffee filters and flatten out then paint with water colors. Holly used both traditional water colors and iridescent water colors. She painted them in fall colors we can see in our yard. Once the filters are dry, you will then fold in half once, twice and a third time to create a triangle. From this triangle she cut leaf shapes. This fold and cut will give you eight leaves per filter. Separate them all and set aside.

Take a large sheet of paper and draw a tree branch - we used oil pastels to get a nice dark color. Before we drew our branches we went outdoors and looked at some. Holly showed me the imperfections, the twists, small twigs, bumps, spots and more. Then we came in and drew branches. Once the branch was the way we liked it we set to work gluing the colorful leaves, making sure not to over glue them - rather do it loosely to leave a little texture to the leaves from the paper. I do not recommend white glue but a glue stick.

These fall branches turned out so beautiful! Definitely a project worth enjoying!

Supplies to make leaves.

Holly painting filters, there is no wrong way to do this!

Painting away!

Filters drying... are they starting to look like leaves yet?

Three half folds. I drew the pattern on the first one so Holly would get it. Then she did them free hand.

And mine. I wasn't going to do this project, but she really wanted me to... and I enjoy art!
